FEBRUARY 2009 Minutes

PRESIDENT: Meeting was called to order by Jack Gregory, President at 7:02 PM. Jack reminded us that prior to our next meeting on March 18, 2009, our Vice-President, Paul Pouliot, would demo a bowl "How To" on March 11, 2009 at our regular meeting place,at 6:30 PM rather than 7:00 PM.

TREASURER: Mike Mogillevsky gave a treasury report. Our chief expenditure was a new lathe- $450 and $292 for the lathe stand. Our funds remaining-$782.57. There is no news on the grant from AAW as of yet.

Harvey Driver and Wynn Arnold installed a set of wheels on the new lathe stand. They also made a utility boxes for both Club lathe stands. Harvey also contributed wood for auction to defray some of the cost.

BREAK TIME: Harvey Driver had some sale items. Morse Taper 1&2 adapters were an excellent price.

Jack Gregory reminded the club that teams of (3) turners can compete at upcoming symposiums. The 13, 14, & 15th March Symposium at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. There will be a $9.00 charge and $5 parking fee. All members should have received a schedule.

LIBRARIAN: Bill Lution requested return of video's that have been out for over a month.

PRESIDENT'S TURN

I had just written this piece about how it looked like we did not get the EOG from AAW. But I had not yet e-mailed it to Susan Pouliot for the March newsletter. I had written that in spite of not getting the grant we were still OK with a good demo lathe that is paid. For the modest bank account, and great bunch of members, so we should "keep on keeping on" and the club would be fine. I had some errands to run and when I got back home, the mail had arrived and with it was a letter from AAW saying that we had been awarded a $1000.00 grant. Talk about mixed emotions, now I had to rewrite this and get it to Susan so she could get the newsletter out.

I still have a couple of hoops to jump through, but it will not be a problem. We will get $800 and after I write another letter will get the remaining $200. Getting this grant will let us breathe a little easier, but Mike still has a death-grip on the checkbook, which is as it should be. Paul and I are doing a demo for the Scout Troop that meets at the Port St John Parrish Medical Building on

Tuesday, March 10th, and with the "How To" on the 11th, and the meeting on the 18th, we have a busy month.
