                                              THE PRESIDENT'S TURN
Things did not happen as thought they would at the last meeting of the Florida Woodturning Symposium Committee, and to make a long story short, Brevard Woodturners will not be a member club of the symposium and I will be an "at large" member of the committee.  We will not give up on this and perhaps there will be a change in the future.

There has been a change in the symposium program that could affect our club.  There used be a "turn around" competition where a team of three turners would turn one or sometimes three pieces in a given length of time.  At the symposium one of the turners suffered an accident when the piece he was turning came off the lathe and struck him in the face, resulting in a visit to the Emergency Department and a few stitches.  As a result the "turn aournd" will no longer by held and in it's place will be a Chapter Collaborative contest similar to the one held at the AAW National Convention.  There have been no rules as of yet but I would think they would be close to what the rules for the AAW contest are.  This is something we might want to think about doing.  We certainly have the talended people and it would be good for the club to give it some thought.  We can discuss it at the meeting.

Was that a neat demo or not?  Thank you Ken for an enjoyable and instructive demo.  We hope you will come back and do the thread chasing or the small box demo in the future.  The show and tell was another winner!  I thought Bill Piastuch did a great job on the tulip vase, but I must admit to a liitle bias!
Good Turning and I will see you on the 18Th

Jack Gregory
President

DEMONSTRATORS

Dear Chapter Leadership,
One of the highest priority items that came out of our discussions was the need to share information regarding demonstrators, both on the "top gun" level, and those from within your group that can/will demonstrate at other clubs.

I am in the process of creating a web site as a resource for all Florida Chapters to use, including calendars, demonstrator resources, etc.

The very first thing you can do to help is to provide the link (below} to any members of your club who would be willing or able to do demonstrations at other club meetings. (http://fs19.formsite.com/Woodturning/demonstratro_signup?

It is a simple form to gather demonstrators' s information. The information will be put into a database available to turning club leadership (it will be password protected in case anyone has privacy concerns.

You can get a "printer-friendly" copy of the form: http://tinyurl.com/as2ua4

Please print out a few copies and bring it to your next club meeting. The forms can be collected by you at the end of your meeting and mailed (or scanned and emailed) to me and I will enter them into the database. Of course, I would prefer they just fill out the form on-line.

If you have any suggestions or would like to see information that is not requested on the form, please email me with ideas.

More updates and info when available. Hope to hear from many of you and your club members soon!
